Yadav's wedding took place in Vijayawada - and i reiterate the fact that wedding planners is a booming biz. India desperately needs them - my husband should open a service maybe, given his experience in the area. And no give ur dirty minds a rest - he planned his friends' weddings, and quite a few of them. Vijayawada was really quite hectic but the week after tht was great.

We took Howrah Mail till Kolkata - Yadav n family joined us in Vijayawada. The train journey was fun - ate the whole way there :) My kind of fun. Thankfully no rains to delay our arrival, were off to the airport after refreshin at the CSIR guest house. Kolkata's NSCBI airport was an absolute disappointment - absolutely no food counter and yes my world revolves arnd food, if there's food arnd - u will not hear me whine. Two snacks bars, one inside Arrivals and the other inside departures - can you believe it. We chked arnd with someone working at the airport and he said 'Medame, khane ke liye kuch bhi nahin - bahut mehnga hein wahan pe'.

Guwahati from the airport was nice - we only got the see the place on our way back. Jorhat is a hot place during this season, supposedly no summers there but two months which are quite sultry and guess what we were lucky enuf to be there then! The RRL Campus is awesome, quite and green with birds all arnd and fireflies at nite. The reception was a hit - the hall was beautifully done up - extremely colorful.

We visited Sibsagar and a couple of old monuments built during the Ahom dynasty - Talathal Ghar and Rang Mahal.

The visit to the tea estates and manufacturing plant was informative - couldn't take pix there but got some grt shots at the tea gardens.

The drive from Jorhat to Guwahati was the only downside to our trip - rain-damaged roads are definitely not what u want to experience.

Oh this is getting continued after a coupla days .....
Guwahati was warmer than we expected - Kamakhiya temple is really quite nice - for someone from South India, the North Indian temples are very different. I'm used to huge gopurams and tall structures with large sized deities inside . Kamkhiya was an eye-opener - really dark passages with steps leading down to the main part of the temple - its very easy to identify those that have been into the main temple and those that are on they're way in -the face has a red portion on top - an no that is exactly how we all looked - i've yet to get the pix from my dad but they will speak for themselves once they're up here.

Shillong was a pleasure - the accommodation was superb, the weather was wonderful and the food was quite alrite :)

The HQ of the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force as well as tht of the Assam Riffles , one of the oldest paramilitary forces in India.

Our day in Shillong was really relaxing and a great way to end the week long vacation.

Work has been hectic again - now i've moved full-time into Consulting and hoping tht the next couple of months go grt. Finally found a place and we'll be moving over the weekend - kinda smaller than our current place in T-Nagar but it cannot be helped. I'm not even going to start with the issues of rental costs in Chennai these days.

Gai's lil angel had her 1st birthday this month and so did Karuna's Manav. The evenings went off really well. In the midst of all this, we did get Mathu her housewarming gift but forgot to give it to her. No excuses really.
The psst few days have been eventful - workload increased, sister relocated, weddings to attend galore, mom bought mobile

After weeks of trying to get the landline phone connection fixed - it finally was. Fingers crossed but get this - the damn company will not let me downgrade to a plan lesser than my currrent cost. Go Figure!!! I'm still waiting to hear back from them - my choices were either downgrade or turn in the connection. We've been shelling out 1K a month on a connection that rarely gets used. Absolutely not worth it.

My sis finally relocated to Bang, poor kitty had to stay back - their new owner was not happy with the thought of a Cat in the house......

On the workfront - currently helping out the RS team get the Samples out and done by Horizontals.

The spree of recent wedding and engagements - Nethaji tied the knot, Cheena got engaged ( a superfast engagement if ever, i kid u not), Yadav is getting hitched on Sept 1, an ex-colleague from work got married and yes Binu is getting engaged the following month.

Sivaji, the much-awaited blockbuster is finally out today and half of the office is absent - no guesses required. I know people who within a day n half are seeing more than one show, some even three :)) That's Rajini mania for you!!!!

Mithru is heading this eve himself - i'v been promised for later. No sense heading to the theaters anytime before the next three weeks - it'll be as good as not watching the movie and watchin the ruckus arnd :)

Seen that once for Stalin - Chiru craze will be nothin compared to this show stopper.

Mum's heading to VJWD tonite, Dad's heading to Delhi for a meeting and the next couple of weeks are likely to be absolute wonkers! Treatment time for my father-in-law in Pdy. Hoping he recovers to whatever extent is possible!!

Hmmm otherwise the going has been ok. Oh yes, the weekend was lovely, we went to Dakshin Chitra - man is the place a wonder!! Been wanted to head thataway and did once but turned out to be a holiday (whoever heard of a Tuesday holiday). The place was awesome but we didn't get a chance to see all of it, need to head over earlier the next time. Then on our way back stopped off at the ECR Dhaba - swell experience. Will upload the pix soon but they have ducks, rabbits, emus, pigeons, cocktails, PERSIAN Cats for christsakes, goats, etc. Had a whale of a time!!!

This weekend will be a bore compared to tht.
It was Pratheep's birthday on Monday - so we all met up later tht nite, they stayed on over, Mathu n Danesh left after a while. There's plenty to get done but no will to work *sigh sigh* Its one of those days when all i really want to do is curl up and read - guess its after effects of yesterday :) One of those lazy but extremely hot days.

When we move houses - i am going to make damn sure that the kitchen has some decent ventilation. Arghhhhh just thinking of cooking in my kitchen is driving me nuts!!!!!

Hopefully no cooking this evening - Mithru is heading out for a floodlight match, a short one but maybe to make up he will bring food home :P I know, i know - am being greedy but wat the heck, small pleasures and all.

But seriously the current heatwave that's passing Chennai is no joke. And this even before it actually gets worse. Agni Nakshitaram is around the corner and no one in their rite minds is looking forward to it.......

Was planning on watching Pursuit of Happiness but completely slipped my mind yesterday, guess i'll end up watching Cruel Intentions - a weird movie to say the least - wat i remember of it from long long ago - a twisted relationship between stepsiblings.

One awesome movie series i finally got to see recently - Final Destination 1, 2 & 3. Man is that an awesome movie or wat!!!! The concept is completely thought provoking and can drive one arnd the bend completely :))
Death is chasing you every step of the way - makes one wonder really but yea does make sense in a completely offhanded way. Death's design !!!

Haven't been to the movies in the recent past - no time really wat with me being ill and then Mithru's dad's treatment this week. I sure hope he handles it as well as he did Cycle 1. The next few weeks are not going to be too easy and the heat won't help either. Fingers crossed !!!

Kas is going to come over tomorrow nite - hopefully we'll hit the bed by 12 atleast.

A friend recently saw Life is Beautiful - well i am at a loss for words when i think of the movie. The emotions that are portrayed and implied......... truly beautiful movie but one that I cannot watch more than once.

Life in reverse :)

A post on a friend's blog said it all -

"The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? 'A death.' What's that , a bonus?

I think the life cycle is all backwards - You should die first, get it out of the way. Then go live in an old-age home - after getting kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension then, when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work for forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You drink alcohol , you party and you get ready for High School. You go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities whatsoever, you become a little baby, you go back, you spend your last 9 months floating with luxuries like central heating, spa, room service on tap, and then you finish off as an orgasm!! NAMES:
If Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara go out for lunch, they will call each other Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara.
If Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla, Peanut-Head and Scrappy.

* 2. EATING OUT:*
When the bill arrives, Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom will each throw in a $20, even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want the change back.

When the women get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

* 3. MONEY:
A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs
A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need but it's on sale.

4. BATHROOMS:
A man has five items in his bathroom: a toothbrush, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel from the Marriott.
The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify most of these items.

* 5. ARGUMENTS:
A woman has the last word in any argument.
Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

* 6. CATS:**
Women love cats.
Men say they love cats, but when women aren't looking, men kick cats.

* 7. FUTURE:**
A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

* 8. SUCCESS:**
A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

* 9. MARRIAGE:*
A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.
A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change and she does.

* 10. DRESSING UP:**
A woman will dress up to go 4 shopping, to water the plants, empty the garbage, answer the phone, read a book, and read the mail.
A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

* 11. NATURAL:
Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.
Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

* 12. OFFSPRING: **
Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite
foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.

A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

* 13. FINAL THOUGHT:*
Any married man should forget his mistakes.
There's no use in two people remembering the same thing.

BECOMING A MAN<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt;

The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches.

That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used?

Because that's the way they built them in England, and English expatriates built the US Railroads.

Why did the English build them like that?

Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the

pre-railroad tramways, and that's the gauge they used.

Why did "they" use that gauge then?

Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools

that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

Okay! Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing?

Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that's the spacing of the wheel ruts.

So who built those old rutted roads?

Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (and England) for their legions. The roads have been used ever since.

And the ruts in the roads?

Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels. Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.

The United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot. And bureaucracies live forever.

So the next time you are handed a specification and wonder what horse's ass came up with it, you may be exactly right, because the Imperial Roman army chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the back ends of two war horses!

Now, the twist to the story

When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs.

The SRBs are made by Thiokol at their factory at Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site.

The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains. The SRBs had to fit through that tunnel.

The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses' behinds.

So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation system was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse's ass.

- .................And U thought being a HORSE'S ASS wasn't important! A week that has been vague really - finding out abt my father-in-laws illness and then all the running arnd to get the tests done, collecting report and meeting specialists has not been easy. A rush trip for all of us and since we barely spent any time in VJWD - it didn;t quite feel like an Andhra wedding - with all the do's n don't etc but it went well!!

Ajay managed to get away with wearing a kurta -pyjama set, set my husbands ears to steaming (hee hee) - He was forced to wear a panchi - Andhra style over his trousers :)) Supposed to be the only thing he remembers of our wedding. Anyways the whole ceremony went well - lunch with the family, evening functions with band baajja and wedding at a God awful hour of 1.30 AM. Ofcourse that was just the beginning - the whole ceremony was done by 4 AM and we had to rush bak - train to catch at 5.30.

The mid-week reception in Blore went well too - shopping spree in the morn and then the guys went out to get some stuff - got caught in the usual traffic snarl and winded up several hours later :) My husband n I swore off Blore again but with my sis and BIL relocating there, we're bound to head thataway!

Pix of the wedding attached.

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; With hardly any money spent, the whole team managed to pull it off excellently and everyone enjoyed. Ofcourse we only ended up with the best floor prize. Sales grabbed the best bay, and QA had an awesome one with eggs used for snowmen- it was highly creative but a small mishap in terms of a minor fire due to a faulty cracker candle :)

The evening was fun - exchanged gifts for the Chris friend game, followed by singing and some random entertainment but yea the floor decoration was FUN!

Ages once again

As usual - haven't had the time for blogging and finally decided that i had to get to it. The past few weeks have been eventful - work has grown (that's an understatement - if ever!) Organisationally a lot of changes - Kalai moved out, Ravin moved in and now Maddy moving out. Teams are growing, some shrinking :) My Program Management activities are shaping up finally. Ofcourse albeit snails pace still but i was expecting that - so no big surprise there.

The girlfriends met up for a session yesterday and hopefully its done loads of good for all involved. Women's day at work was celebrated with a luncheon at Towers. Was too many of us to really but we had fun with Gai's lil' angel.

Valentine's was uneventful really, infact the B'day and Anniversary were too but that's ok, we were not planning on anythin' extravagant. We were all in Yercaud for the 2nd Jan and enjoyed ourselves with the short break. Lovely climate as usual.

Last weekend at Gai's was fun, noon till nite at her place, sumptuous lunch, walk by the Puzhal Dam and then 'Lee' to wind the day. The movie was ok - nice start and middle, a bit of a let down towards the end.

M n me were trying to watch Thimuru but seems to be entirely jinxed - i think it was the 3rd CD were trying to see but couldn't get thru the whole movie -kept skipping and finally got stuck.

No telugu movies seen recently - nothing in the way of a recent hit anyways.

Oy yeah another cousin married in Feb - wedding in VJWD and reception in B'lore. Was nice n we all had a great time. We went bonkers at Chikpet shopping for sarees.

Hmmm guess that about sums up all that's been happening, more in the next installment

Been a while

Back on the blogger after awhile - thingz have been crazy at work and well basically no time for a lot of thingz.

Last week's Tirupathi trip was quite disasterous, all fine but thingz went completely awry at the end....
Dad's been bizzy making plans for December - Jan, when cousins are down from Auz. My preparations are happening, albeit slowly. Hopefully i will be ready for the test by the required date.

My ol' roomie Kas, is currently staying at our place and it feels like 'ol times. Poor thing has been looking for a place to move into but no luck so far. We're happy to have her for as long as is needed!

Biz has been super low this month, wat with all the rains and bad weather. Fingers crossed that it will change soon.

Oh yes, my sis began this Damisetti/ Damisetty community on Orkut and we managed to locate a few others too. We met with Suman while he was in Chennai. It was nice to meet him but poor soul was given the third degree by my folks - they were so interested in being able to trace out common relatives that it went all over our heads :))

Well nothing more to really add at this point but will make it a point to blog more frequently, my net connection at home is up and running finally. It was finally her turn to tie the knot :) A lovely girl with a knack for keeping friends and my - absolutely unbelievable ability to keep in touch with friends!!!

Was her Mehendi ceremony on Saturday and we, my sis n me, reached her place in Thiruvanmiyur arnd 3:15. Most of the junta was knew but some that i know of as her friends. This was an occassion where all her many different friends finally to got to meet others that they've been hearing about but never met before :)

Aarti, Saroja, VJ, Mangala, Subashree, Anusha and Anandhi - nice folks all from very different attitudes but was great to meet 'em all. I guess I've never really been a part of a gathering where i didn't know the crowd so to speak but i enjoyed it thoroughly. Starting Ryzing after having met them all. A lot of the group were friendz of Thi's from having networked in Ryze. Infact, she met her husband, Sachin, at a ryze gathering.

Wedding was on Monday, Mom was coming down to Chennai for the wedding. She n my sis headed over earlier while i went along a bit later. Different wedding to see for me - Konkani ishtyle! Saree worn different, different ceremonial procedures, the works. Finally rushed to work and headed for reception in the evening. Met up with the Frost junta - Andy bhai, Ranjith, Rajesh, Hari, JD, Anu, Sharon, Tammy, Lalitha, Anusha and several others. Was nice to say to them after this time.

Thi n Sachin are heading to Goa for their honeymoon, followed by a reception in Secunderabad (Sachin's family hails from there). See wedding pix attached.... On the whole, had a whale of a time, made new friends and ate happily!!

Julie's Wedding - Finally!

A friend of mine tied the knot on Thursday (18th Sept) - Julie's wedding was a much awaited event. Santhosh works for Polaris and altho' they'd been engaged for over two months, the friendz circle at Synaptris just never got to meet him in person.

We all introduced ourselves to him after the wedding, Julie was getting ready for the reception and we were on our way to meet her backstage :)

Super biryani as promised but sob sob I sat with one of the really late batches as my husband didn't come in until quite late. He could only come after the unit closed. Anyways by the time we finally sat down to eat, the Chicken fry was mostly over. She's promised to feed us a great meal soon :)

Left early from work, hopping to be there in time for the wedding service but as inevitable when plans are made, we reached mid way during the ceremony. Ahhh the ceremony - well it was different to sit thru a Protestant wedding service - lotsa funky Christ music, albeit all in Tamil. Songs were along the lines of 'Eesu super star' :)

Anyways Gai and me headed over to my place to get ready, while Mathu went home to bring Teju. The plan was to meet at my place and head from there. Drive was rainy but not long enuf to cool the place, the entire place heated up a bit too much.

Teju was adorable, happy listening to the hip Christ music and all the new faces arnd. Our boss, Kalai came in later, along with Priya n LP. In all, there were close to 80 from Synaptris, huge showing, especially as Julie was known to a lot of folks at work.

Pix of Teju, Julie's wedding attached :)

Karuna was due first week of Oct and Friday was supposed to be her last day, she was taking off for Maternity leave, but imagine our shock when I received an sms on Monday morning saying she was in labor. She has a lovely baby boy - 2.7 kg, and mom is doing fine. Infact we spoke to her almost 40 mins after the delivery, but phew! it sure was a long labor - more than 12 hrs.......
Pix will be uploaded when i get hold of some

Group Treat at Comfort Inn, Egmore

After much a do, lunch was finally fixed for Tuesday, 29th Aug. With a group of 20, planning is not necessarily the easiest to coordinate :)

Anyways, Deepa, who's put in her papers was giving us a treat for joining, birthday and exit.My team is extremely er... fond of eating to say the least. Infact Deepa was hoping to get a few pix of the team in the Pirhana mode. That shud give you some idea of how much Synaptris Marketing loves to eat. It was a combined treat given by Deepa, Sereen, Gayathri and Priya.

The spread looked awesome, but the service was quite sad. Despite reservations, we were offered separate tables but as usual we made the most of it with our usual panache :)

The pix shud giv u some idea of the spread, it was a super duper offer all for Rs 199 (incld tax). After several rounds of plate changes, the entire team was ready to call it a day and head home to sleep off the aftereffects of the noon excess :) The finale was the bungled up billing, sad to receive such treatmemt or rather lack of, especially from a three star hotel. Anyways wats a few bumps and hiccups when the food is great, the ambience nice and desserts galore!!!

Weekend at Pondy

The whole of last week has been quite crazy, what with things coming to a head at work and having to rush to Pondy on Friday evening so that we could attend the Banquet....... Weekend was super duper hectic, dinner and lunch out three consecutive days. Am completely fed-up of home food but have absolutely no wish to cook tonite either. Was up this morning at 3:45 AM to drive back to Chennai and was nodding off at work for a bit arnd 6:00 in the evening :)

The banquet at Seagulls was regular fare, a bit of rain earlier in the evening but overall alrite. Sat nite was at Ashok Pondy, I'm heading there after a real long time. Infact this weekend was about visiting places i havent been too in a loooong time.

Sat nite was quite a crazy scene but the highlite was the band from Auroville, really good music and i think a few med students played a few oldies. Nostalgia .... all tht old music

My folks and family friends had organised for this Pizza Party last nite, was nice to meet old friends after ages.
But phew thank god the weekend is over !!!!

Change at workplace - new hoop for all of us BB mad folks. Good way to expend energy altho' tough for the guys in tht hoop bay... tht's wat we're going to call them :)

As far as opportunities for my husband's biz, hopefully things will pan out after the weekend.

Change at workplace - new hoop for all of us BB mad folks. I'm kinda broke at the moment, so no more trips to the library and my UPS has conked off.... Given the rampant power fluctuations in my locality, i'm not risking my system for ebooks :(

Anyways back to the book, now there's nothing new answering calls, especially if it forms the primary part of your job description. But this call was different, it was a call from God.
Events that occur all in one nite, with flashes into the past make the book a quick and overall interesting reading experience. However, one feels a bit squirmy (for lack of a better word) after having read the book.

I've always felt that reading books was exactly just that - FICTION. The places, landmarks, people, attitudes etc somehow felt a bit far off and different but this book was authored by and Indian and personally, i could relate more to it, for all that the book was a piece of fiction....

Yet to read the author's first book - Five point Something, supposedly about student life at IIT. Need to get hold of tht now

Babies babies everywhere.......

Lots of stuff happening in my life at the moment, well not directly to me per se, but around me :)
My closest pal, Suni, had a baby girl, name unknown still, but she looks a real heartbreaker from the pix i saw of her.
Another good friend at work, Gayathri, is in her last trimester and all of us at work cant' quite wait to see the lil' one.
She's one of those fun folks to be around, always lightening up the place with her antics.
She either whacks one of the boys arnd coz she gets these urges to let out some steam or watch out, a hard thump on your shoulder.
From what i hear, it pains a bit and then goes numb but whatever it does, it sure as heck lightens up the place for the rest of us :))

Another friend at work, Mathu, has a lovely baby boy - Tejas, adorable little imp he is.
The first time we saw him, we thought he was this serious looking kid, guess he was just disoriented from all the racket and ruckus being kicked up, thanks to us seeing the new mom after a long time. And let me tell u, we can be one noisy group when we get together.
The latest pix we saw of him was this cutie in a bucket with this expression on his face saying 'Ahem wat exactly am i doing here and how the heck will i get out!!!!!'

My boss has a little girl, Anjali, she's a few days short of a year and is one smart cookie.
Tom-boy to the core, she's going to grow up having a funtime. Altho' i doubt the family will feel the same, if you want to confirm just as my folks!!

So with all of these babies around, my folks are feeling the pinch as they've yet to become grandparents :) Neither me nor my sis are currently considering expanding the family, circumstances don't allow for them yet.
